Every Mvule bed carries the same five non-negotiables.
No veneers, no MDF, no shortcuts. Every load-bearing component is cut from a single seasoned Mvule log — dense enough to sink in water.
Interlocking wood joints cut to 0.2mm tolerance. The frame tightens with age — a 30-year-old Dockwood bed is sturdier than a new one.
Each plank is dried to 8% moisture over 12 weeks. This is why a Dockwood bed never warps, splits, or cracks — even in coastal humidity.
Twelve individually-resilient slats distribute weight and absorb motion. Your partner can get up at 5am without stirring you.
Five coats of natural tung oil, polished by hand between each layer. The finish penetrates the wood — scratches can be buffed out at home.
We build furniture to be inherited. Every bed carries a 50-year structural warranty — transferable to your children, and theirs.
Solid wood slatted frames with carved posts and a whisper-quiet support base. The piece that anchors a bedroom for fifty years.
Top-grain cognac leather paired with carved hardwood bases. Armchairs and loungers engineered for hours of stillness.
Single-slab Mvule tabletops on hand-turned legs. Seats eight, weighs more than a small car, and never moves an inch.
Six weeks. Four hands. One tree. Here is how a Dockwood piece is made.
Only mature Mvule trees (40+ years) are selected from sustainably-managed East African forests. Each log is tagged and traceable to its origin.
Planks rest in our solar kiln for 12 weeks, brought down to 8% moisture. This is the step most makers skip — and the reason ours never warp.
Master joiners cut mortise and tenon joints by hand and machine, fitting each joint to 0.2mm. Dry-assembled before any glue touches wood.
Five coats of natural tung oil, hand-rubbed and cured between each. The grain deepens; the surface becomes silk to the touch.

A few words from the homes that own a Dockwood.
"My father bought a Dockwood dining table in 1994. It has survived four children, two grandchildren, and a house move. It still looks better than the day it arrived."
"I shopped every 'luxury' bed brand in Nairobi. None felt like the Mvule four-poster. The weight, the joinery, the smell of the oil finish — it's a real object, not furniture."
"The 50-year warranty sounded like marketing. Then a joiner came to refinish it after 12 years and confirmed: not a single joint had loosened. This bed will outlive me."
Touch the grain. Sit in the armchair. Run your hand along a mortise joint. Some things can only be understood in person — our doors are open six days a week.
